The Church Unity Project (which is a fancy name for a series of videos I've been making) is about helping Christians to like each other more by understanding each other better. In pursuit of those goals, I go around to the churches of other historical, orthodox, creedal expressions of Christianity and talk with the people who lead those churches while also getting a look at their places of worship. I hope these videos are charitable, informative, probing, contrasting between traditions, encouraging and fun.
I think the wide variety of historical, orthodox creedal around the world is a good thing that helps the Gospel reach into all the corners of humanity. I'm not capable of declaring a winner among the various expressions of Christianity, and even if I were, I don't think it would be good to organizationally unify under one single institution. What I am hoping to promote is convictional unity among believers. I don't think real unity among Christians can be achieved by pretending all Christian beliefs are the same, nor can it be achieved by pretending not to believe that which we deeply believe. Instead, real unity among Christians is born out of a deep understanding of what I believe and a deep understanding of what you believe.
This kind of unity is good because it:
• Acknowledges conviction of conscience even in disagreement with other Christians
• Makes a habit of assuming the best of other Christians
• Frees up energy to invest in more important things than fighting each other
• Sharpens each Christian's understanding of what they believe and why
• Models to a lost world the unity Jesus prayed for in John 17
Whether we agree about most things or not, thanks in advance for giving me and the people I interview the benefit of the doubt. These videos have helped me understand what I believe and what others believe much better, they've softened my heart toward people I used to imagine were my enemies, and they've drawn me closer to God. I hope this has a similar effect for you.
You remain one of the best channels out there in all of YouTube-land. Informative, insightful, thoughtful, engaging and actually legitimately funny (a rarity!). Most channels would be lucky to get one or two of those things right, at most! God bless you! May you continue for many years to come, God willing.
